Abstract
This paper considers the Kaibel column, a fully thermally coupled distillation column for the separation of four products in a single column with a single reboiler. The authors of this paper have built a laboratory pilot plant of a Kaibel column with the purpose of investigating its operational performance and control properties. In this paper the requirements for stable operation are discussed, and the location of temperature measurements for optimal operation is investigated.
